Week 1 - Review: AG1 Daily Supplement
My Background
I’ve not been blessed with the best of health, having suffered with IBD over the last 26 years - which affects not just my stomach, but also my bladder, my joints, my energy levels and my immune system. I’m susceptible to colds and flu’s when they are on the go and without any prescribed medicine to help any of my symptoms, I’m always on the lookout for a product that might help improve my day-to-day health and wellbeing.
I stumbled across AG1 when they sponsored a YouTube channel I watch and I thought I’d check them out. You’ll see from the quotes above, taken from their website that they claim their product will provide digestive support, improve energy, mental performance and focus, improve stress levels and boost your immune system! It’s a bold claim but that’s what I’m here for.
Cost (from £79)
Let’s be clear from the off - this is not a cheap product. It comes in at the top of the pricing for this type of supplement (£79) v other green powder daily supplement alternatives (typically around £30) but AG1 do boast far more ingredients. The first order comes as a ‘Welcome Pack’ which includes a drinks container, a powder scoop, a 30-day supply of the powder, a 30 day supply of Omega 3 capsules and also a bottle of Vitamin D3&K2. Thats a more reasonable amount to receive for the money but note you only get the powdered greens each month, which is a shame. If the powder does make a massive improvement to my day to day health and wellbeing, the cost works out at around £2.63 per day.
Week 1 of AG1
To set the scene - it’s late November 2024. The weather has been awful all year and no change is expected to that. We’ve already had our first snow flurry that closed the schools for a day (the Scandinavians would laugh at us) and that has been replaced by milder stormy weather. The Snow, followed by -3C temperatures, that turned into 12C in the space of a day is a breeding ground for germs. Needless to say my daughter came home from school with the cold at the start of Week 1 and that’s us already with the cold in the household before I even get started.
It’s been a long, hard working year and I’ve had little to no time off at all - and I’m very much looking forward to some time off over Christmas. The mornings are dark and the sun is already setting between 3pm and 4pm, so with work, I’m not getting any time outside in daylight unless on a site trip - so there is a feeling of struggling to the finish line at the moment. Add in the bad weather and its the perfect setting for Seasonal Affected Disorder. With all that in mind, it should be fairly obvious if AG1 improves anything over the coming weeks/months!
First impressions - Week 1
The powder is very fine and dissolves really well using a shaker. The initial taste is pleasant and there is no ‘chalky’ texture when drinking (which I have found with other powdered green alternatives and really dislike) - so that’s a positive start. The aftertaste is a bit less pleasant but that won’t put me off at all. It’s advertised as Vanilla and Pineapple flavour - I get that. I think it it reminds me a bit of the yellow antibiotic medicine we used to get as kids from the doctor…was that Pineapple flavoured? I don’t particularly like how it tastes with just the cold water temperature - straight out of the tap but I’ve been adding in crushed/cubed ice on subsequent days and drink it out of my Yeti cup over the course of a morning, each morning on an empty stomach and the ice, for me, makes it much more pleasant.
I don’t notice any drastic changes on Day 1 or 2 but on day 3 and 4, I have noticed a change in my tummy movements (in a positive way). Hard to know if the powder is at work - or if its something else…but its a welcome surprise either way. Day 4, I might add that I wake up with and have a sore throat all day - assuming my daughters cold has been passed on to me but Day 5 and it’s gone! Was the sore throat just a blip - down to the house temperatures/heating coming on and off to suit the drastic changing temperatures outside - I can’t be sure just yet?
Day 6 and now Day 7 have come along and I would say that the drink alone has at the very least, supressed my appetite a bit in the mornings and see’s me through to lunchtime without ever feeling like I need to eat anything. My sore throat from a few days ago has not developed into anything further *touch wood* but my son is now also sick with the cold - so we are definitely in Cold/Flu season.
I haven’t had the time to film an unboxing video of the welcome pack yet, so haven’t taken the Omega 3 capsules and Vitamin D&K drops at the same time but hopefully will manage that in time for next week, which should give me a needed boost too. I’m looking forward to reporting back on Week 2. We’ll have gone into December over the weekend, so there will be good spirits in the house (we put our Christmas decorations up on the 1st of December each year). That’s it for week 1 and I’ll report back next week with week 2.
