Rated 12A
65 is not a new movie release and has been on Netflix for a while now but we stumbled across it while looking for something that wasn’t too long but also looked like it would have enough about it, to keep the attention span of our 12 year old son.
On the length of movie - it’s only an hour and a half, which is exactly what we were looking for but it also has good action, suspense and an enjoyable storyline - which you would expect from the writers of the excellent “A Quiet Place” movie.
It’s a small cast and is about a space pilot (Adam Driver) who needs to to go away on a 2 year transport mission from his planet, through space - to earn extra money for treatment for his sick child. It is set 65 million years ago and Adam Driver’s character is a ‘human’ from another planet similar to Earth but they have evolved to a space travelling civilisation. Of course, the journey in space doesn’t go as planned and he crashes onto a mysterious planet, which happens to be Earth, at the time of the dinosaurs. The story unfurls from there and we won’t say too much more, to spoil any enjoyment you might get from the movie.
At only an hour and a half long, you can guess that the movie doesn’t dive too deep into the storylines - it could easily have been a 3 hour long epic - but just to temper your expectations, it’s a quick but fun to watch movie and I suspect its this lack of detail that leaves 65 with relatively low scores from other Movie critics/sites.
Don’t be misled though - it is good, the CGI and graphics are good and its an enjoyable short watch. It could have been more, but it isn’t and we don’t mind that at all. It is a great film to watch if you are short on time or looking for action to watch with the family. We’ll stick a decimal place in the title and give it a well-worth-a-watch 6.5/10.
