The Electric State (2025)

The Electric State (2025)

AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX

Rated 12A

Newly released on Netflix is the high budget The Electric State, starring Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby-Brown. The film reportedly had a budget of £247 million and if that’s the case - it would be the most expensive film to air on a streaming service and puts epic classics in the shade, big style.

The movie is set in a re-imagined 1990’s, in the aftermath of a robot v human war. It follows the story of a teenage girl called Michelle, who is orphaned after the death of her family in a car accident, that only she survives. A big tech company, who’s owner helped end the war - takes advantage of the state of the world and paralyses human productivity with an addictive VR Headset, that everyone owns and essentially live inside…society has crumbled.

Michelle has an encounter with a rogue robot that leads her to believe that her younger brother might still be alive and she and the robot set off on an adventure to find out if that is true. Chris Pratt’s character is a mischievous dealer doing whatever it takes to make ends meet in this apocalyptic world and the two characters inevitably cross paths and their stories inter-twine.

Slated by movie critics but still likely to be the most watch movie in Netflix history, it’s good but not great. The graphics show where the budget went - we were really impressed. Kids around 10 - 13 will really enjoy it and it’s a good one to watch as a family. It’s still good to watch as an adult but you might find yourself drifting towards your phone whilst the movie is still on.

It’s a good, not great 6.4/10 from us. Enjoyable but not likely to watch again by choice…if the kids had it on in the background, I wouldn’t be upset about it.
