The Studio (2025)

AVAILABLE ON APPLE TV+

Rated 15

What a surprise treat Seth Rogen has served up, with the newly released “The Studio”.

This is show that requires your full attention (so put the phone away while watching) and follows Seth Rogens character - Matt Remick, as he becomes the Studio Head for Continental Movies. He loves and lives for movies and has worked in the movie making industry his whole life, so all his dreams come true when his predecessor is fired and he gets to take over as the one in charge.

The job is not what it seems though and we’re cast (pun intended) into a calamitous and stressful environment of high pressure decision making and executive in-fighting, as the big-wigs demand the opposite of what Matt wants to create - great movies. It is a pretty fast moving and anxiety inducing satirical show, that I have really enjoyed so far. On the other side, my wife - who did not put her phone away whilst watching, hasn’t given it the attention to enjoy as much and would score it low, if that gives you a better insight of what to expect.

It’s one of those shows that instantly messes with you visually, its very brown and the fashion and decor suggest it is set in the 1960’s or 1970’s but it doesn’t hide its modernness with cars and mobile phones etc. Each episode is packed with cameo’s, giving it a similar vibe to the massively popular “Entourage” show and who doesn’t love the idea of seeing behind the scenes of Hollywood movie production?

It won’t be for everyone but I think its brilliant - 8.2/10.
